LifeHacker recently posted an entry on “Which Social Network is Right for You?” It’s a great social media 101 and breaks down, with color charts, each network’s privacy settings, use and management, access and openness, and mobile experience.
What the article doesn’t address is why social networks may not be right for you. The number of registered Twitters is astronomical. However, what quickly followed all the growth stories in the media were article about the number of “dead” accounts. The people who registered to check it out and then never returned. They are contacted by friends, professionals and an assortment number of tweeters looking to follow them, but their requests go unanswered. The same goes for Facebook – you can tell by the large number profiles that go without a picture . . .
The point is that while it seems that everyone is on a social network, not everyone should be. It’s not for everyone, and that’s okay. If you want to tweet or share with friends, then go for it, just don’t be wind up among the “dead.”
